The National Federation of Paralegal Associations’ annual convention returns to Seattle! The convention dates are October 25 to October 28, 2018. It will be held at the Hilton Seattle Airport Hotel & Conference Center. The convention is proudly hosted by the Washington State Paralegal Association (WSPA).
Reasons to Attend
What are the reasons not to attend? The National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA) is a leading organization that works to establish a common standard of certification for paralegals across the country. NFPA does wonders for paralegals and its convention is always beneficial to members of the profession.
Consider the following:
Continuing Legal Education – The convention holds educational sessions designed to enhance a paralegal’s knowledge in specific areas.
Networking Opportunities – The NFPA convention always provides a great opportunity for a paralegal to reunite with and meet new professionals in the industry. Old bonds get strengthened and new bonds get formed.
Industry Connections – Exhibitors and sponsors abound at the convention. This means a paralegal can increase his or her pool of resources.
Inspiration – Many paralegals walk away from the NFPA convention with a renewed zest for the profession. The convention is also a confidence boaster that only helps motivate and inspire.
Meet Rob McKenna
Rob McKenna is the 2018 convention’s keynote speaker. Rob served two terms as Attorney General of Washington State, from 2005 to 2013. During this role, he:
- Successfully argued three cases before the U.S. Supreme Court;
- Served as President of the National Association of Attorneys General; and,
- Received the honorable Kelley-Wyman Award for Outstanding Attorney General in America.
Rob currently serves as a partner at Orrick in Seattle and is co-head of the firm’s Public Policy Group.
Enough awesome things cannot be said about the WSPA. It’s a well-respected and smart not-for-profit organization that was formed in 1975. It was created to:
- Support and promote the paralegal profession; and,
- Provide a forum for addressing paralegal needs, interests, and responsibilities in Washington State.
The organization continues to successfully build upon these ideals today. Every paralegal in Washington should definitely consider joining this group.
WSPA is organized into geographical Chapters. The Chapters hold meetings and educational events at central locations accessible to the members in that Chapter area. Chapter membership is not exclusive, and the geographical designations are intended only as guidelines, not restrictions. Any WSPA member is welcome to attend activities sponsored by any Chapter, and in most cases, non-members are welcome.
